Where Should Lean Lead? February 4, 2011

Terry Durbin, writing in response to an article at Industry Week, reaffirms that lean cannot be compartmentalized; that it must be embraced as a whole. Lean as a philosophy is based on responsiveness to customers, elimination of waste, and employee participation. Cost reductions, for example, are a byproduct of lean –not the promise of lean.

I agree. Lean touches departments, processes, people, suppliers. and employees which should in turn touch customers through that.

That is how at least it should happen with lean…
